Employment

The telecommunications industry provided 1.2 million wage and salary jobs in 2002. Most telecommunications employees work in large establishments. Sixty-four percent of employment is in establishments with 100 or more employees. With continuing deregulation, however, the number of small contractors has been increasing. Telecommunications jobs are found in almost every community, but most employees work in cities that have large concentrations of industrial and business establishments.
